Vitiligo appears as areas on the skin, anywhere on the body, that are discolored. The skin loses its color when its cells, the melanocytes, are destroyed. This in vitiligo is done by an autoimmune mechanism in which cells of the immune system attack the melanocytes and destroy them. However this process is sometimes reversible for it and requires careful choice of treatment.
Treatments include medication, phototherapy and lasers. At Athens Dermatology we understand the importance of a correct diagnosis and evaluation that leads to the selection of the appropriate treatment.
