Wrinkle treatments with BOTOX® and Dysport® in the facial muscles cause a reduction in muscle contraction and consequently wrinkles. When the technique is performed correctly and according to the particular needs of each person, expressiveness is not lost, they simply soften or disappear the signs of aging. Our goal at Athens Dermatology is the natural result, i.e. a more rested, youthful face with fewer wrinkles.
Clues
BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments improve wrinkles on the forehead, forehead, around the eyes (crow's feet), smoker's and neck wrinkles, and more.
Is there a systemic risk from using botulinum toxin?
No. Risk of systemic absorption exists only after consuming large amounts of botulinum toxin, mainly by eating contaminated food. The doses we use in aesthetic dermatology to combat wrinkles represent less than 2% of the maximum allowable human dose, creating a very large margin of safety when using BOTOX® and Dysport®.
Side effects
BOTOX® has been used since 1980 to treat two facial conditions, strabismus and blepharospasm. It was first used in the treatment of forehead wrinkles in 1989. Dysport® has been used in Europe for many years with an excellent safety profile and was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2009.
Side effects from the use of BOTOX® and Dysport® are minimal when the treatment is performed correctly by a trained dermatologist. Most commonly, the patient feels a little local discomfort during the injection, while there is a very small chance of ecchymosis (bruising). There are no reports of permanent side effects from using BOTOX® and Dysport® to treat wrinkles.
Recovery
Immediately after the treatment, a slight redness may be observed at the injection sites, which subsides in a few hours. Bruises (bruises) that may last for a few days are rare. We encourage our patients to use the muscles more in the first hour after treatment to maximize the therapeutic effect of BOTOX® and Dysport®. For the first 4 hours after the treatment, they should not do massage, exercise, bend or lie down. They should also avoid heat (eg sauna, steam) as high temperature deactivates the medicine.
Combines with
Wrinkle treatments with BOTOX® and Dysport® can be combined with other injectable treatments such as hyaluronic acid and lasers.
